Abstract

Therapies using ozone gas for the resolution and improvement of different pathophysiological conditions, have been recognized for their benefits. This gas must be produced in situ for its application, hence the importance of aspects related to its handling to ensure adequate doses. In that sense the mains of this work are to test the ozone concentrations obtained with two generators Philozon and Ozonobaric P and to determine the influence of the use of different syringes and the handling by two specialists. Another objective was to determine the half-life time of ozone gas within two types of syringes. A single-center study was performed, where a spectrophotometric method was applied. Two different specialists obtained from the two generators four different ozone concentrations using two different syringes. Statistical method of comparison of means was applied according to the experiments. Both generators presented variations letter than 10% in the concentrations established in the equipment and those calculated by the spectrophotometric measurements. The use of two types of syringes showed significant differences (p<0.05) in the 5 and 10 µg/mL concentrations, using the Philozon generator. No significant differences were observed in the concentrations in relation to the specialists (p>0.05). The ozone half-life was 19 min in standard syringes and 21 min in luer lock syringes. A concentration adjustment factor is not required for any generators to ensure proper application of ozone doses in clinical practice. It was identified that the type of syringe can influence the concentration as opposed to the handling of the specialist. Additionally, the importance of using the gas in the first 3 minutes after being full-filled the syringes is also demonstrated.
