Abstract

Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune syndrome characterized by a chronic inflammation of the articulations. This illness affects 1 % of the world population’s and possesses a high level of morbidity. Main etiologic factors for rheumatoid arthritis are: environmental, genetic and immunological factors. Several cellular lineages of the immune system improve the chronic inflammation developed in articulations, mainly autoreactive T cells. Many medications that calm the pain are used in the treatment of the rheumatoid arthritis, because they decrease inflammation; nevertheless they many have the inconvenience of presenting negative collateral effects. With the advances at autoimmunity’s area, new variants of treatments have developed for these illnesses. Pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis had been thoroughly studied, and main molecules involved in this process had been elucidated, which constitute therapeutic focus for the treatment of this autoimmune disorder. At present, biological therapy is a novel modality in the treatment of patients with RA, some examples are: Etarnecept and Anankira. Nevertheless, some of these medications have not been introduced to the therapy, to present collateral effects for the patients, because they promote an unspecific depression of the individual’s immune system, allowing its susceptibility to infection
