Abstract

The kinetics and the mechanism of the polymerization of 2-propenylfuran with trifluorocetic acid were
investigated. At 36.45ºC the kinetic law was determined: Rp = k' [M]2, where k' = k1 (i)2 (M)-1 The
decrease in catalyst concentration and ring alkylation were observed during polymerization furanic at
position C-5 by an active center. The percent alkylation remains almost constant until about 85%
conversion is reached. A pseudocopolymerization mechanism is proposed to explain this phenomenon.
