Abstract

Samples of Ni polycristaline (aprox 99%) were treated in an atmosphere of H2 cantaminated with several oxidizing gases. The replicas of Pt-C prepared for ME examination displayed the particles that are formed surrounded by characteristic symmetrical zones, which in sorne cases extended to endose more than one particle. The lack of Pt in these zones indicates a high rate of Pt adhesion to the substrate. It is surmised that this greater adhesión results from the formation of amorphous layers on the substrate during the process of selective oxidation The fact that this phenomenon only appeared upan separation detachment of the replica in a Br solution of Methanol indicates that these layers must be comprised of stable oxides in that solution.
