Abstract

The crystal structure of 2-phenyl-3-nitrosoindolizine has been determined by direct methods and refined with R = 0.044
for 705 observed reflections. The crystal is monoclinic, space group P21/c with a =8.990(2), b = 11.167(3), c= 11.046(2)
Á,B = 101.39(2)o; Z = 4. In structure the indolizinic ring is approximately planar. The nitroso group is coplanar with
the indolizinic ring, while the phenyl group is inclined 26.8° with the latter. The bond distances of the 5-membered
ring of indolizine demonstrate the greatest contribution to the compound structure of charge-separated canonical
forms.
