Abstract

The concept of nano has been used in a systematic, and sometimes abusive, in the scientific literature for about twenty years. Literally, the prefix nano refers to one billionth of unity. Yes this unit is the meter, then you would be talking about dimensions in the order of 10 times the diameter of the atoms. As is known at this scale the explanation of physical-chemical phenomena and processes comes from the quantum mechanics. In this sense, compliance with Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle establishes, for one hand, limitations and, on the other, new opportunities to the understanding of phenomena and their application in that scale. The ability to modify properties of the materials rearranging the atoms was enunciated by prominent American physicist R. Feynman, Nobel Prize in Physics of 1965, in the already distant 1959. No However, from a practical point of view, this was not possible at that time
