Abstract

Reinforcement bar corrosion rate in presence of chlorides has been usually determined in Cuba on site.
There are no reports about the previous use of this electrochemical noise technique in the determination and comparison
of reinforcement bar corrosion rate. Reinforced concrete probes embedded on three ratio water/cement at two exposure
conditions were evaluated using electrochemical noise on time and frequency domain. A comparison is made, where the
direct measurements corrosion rate by thickness difference is taken a reference. Corrosion rate data on frequency domain
is more significant than that one obtained on time domain respecting thickness difference. The existance of localized
corrosion under the influence of chloride ions is confirmed on current signals on time and frequency domain and on
pitting index, together with the visual observation. Outdoor exposure condition causes a higher corrosion rate on reinforced
bar in comparison with immersion conditions due to an easier penetration of aggressive agents. It is confirmed
that an increase in water/cement ratio causes an increase in corrosion rate
