Abstract

The effect of the addition of lithium sales, inhibitor and both of them, upon the decomposition of perbenzoic acid in CCJ4 solution, in absence of oxygen was studied. Benzaldehyde and benzoic acid were present in these solutions in comparable amoums to perbenzoic acid. It was demonstrated that the monomolecular decomposition in presence of lithfom salts represems only 15 % of the total decomposition of the peracid iJ1 the studied reaction conditions. Radical induced decomposition in these conditions does not contribute much to the overall decomposition process. The main reaction way is the reaction of perbenzoic acid with benzaldehyde. The presence of lithium sales affects the course of the reaction detennining the formation of benzoyl peroxide and benzoic acid as fü1al products.
