Abstract

Called phthisis or white plague, tuberculosis (TB) is a chronic infectious disease, with a wide worldwide distribution, caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis in humans, located anywhere in the body, although much more frequently in the lung parenchyma. M. tuberculosis is a pathogen that preferentially settles in well-oxygenated areas of the lung. However, by hematogenous route, it can be implanted in any other place in the body and multiply there to give rise to different clinical manifestations that will depend on the place of affection. Clinically, extrapulmonary TB manifests as fatigue, weakness, malaise, weight loss, and fever. Blood spread involves miliary TB with multiple lesions that are difficult to eradicate.
