Abstract

The possible interaction between phonological and orthographic processes in reading has been discussed in
several investigations. To do this, researchers have manipulated phonological and orthographic aspects of
words in a series of tasks, including rhyme. Some authors have combined behavioral studies of rhyme with
electrophysiology. N450 is the evoked potential associated with phonological processing and appears when
pairs of stimuli that are presented do not rhyme (girl-cat) with respect to pairs that do rhyme
(girl-pineapple). In the present work, the N450 potential that appears when the stimuli do not rhyme and
have different spellings and the one that appears when the stimuli do not rhyme and have a similar spelling
is studied.
