Abstract

The goethite and lepidocrocite phases are differentiated at the optical microscope and a description is made of how thesc phases are ordered: first, goethite phases are nucleated near the steel boundary and rnagnetite plus amorphous phases with lepidocrocite at
the outer one although without continuity and alternating in the inner part of the corrosion film. Electronic micrography representatives of the morphologie and structure of magnetite, lepidocrocite and goethite; are presented; all these phases were present in all specimens. The spectrometric Müssbauer results suggest different cualitative kinetics at different atmospheric dimes and confirm the lepidocrocite abundance in relation with the metallographic evaluation. The goethite phase increased with time in the corrosion products that come from the steel surfaces.
