Abstract

The use of event-related potentials (ERPs) in the study of language and reading processes gives the
possibility of accessing their neurophysiological substrate, allowing, from the behavior of the different
parameters, to contribute to postulate psychological models. that explain them. Among the components of
the PREs, the N400 (Kutas and Hillyard, 1980) and the N450 (Rugg, 1984) associated with semantic and
phonological processing, respectively, have been described. The study of their topography can contribute
to elucidating their functional independence and psychological modeling of language and reading.
